NFL Week 5

Last week was not a good week for me making picks. This is becoming a problem here.

I thought I would be much better at this but apparently not.

We missed week 1 but so far this season Verb is doing good and I am doing well.

Verb......32-12
GM........26-18

We both went 7-6 last week which really isn't very good.

Let's see if we can improve on that this week.

But first lets talk about the 4 games I want to see:

Washington @ Philadelphia

This is obviously the game of the day. I think everyone wants to see what these teams are made of.

The Redskins are coming off a very big win over the Cowboys in Dallas last week. Where as the Eagles lost in Chicago.

But the Eagles are getting healthier where as the Skins aren't. Word out of Washington is that Jason Taylor and Sean Springs are both OUT of Sunday's game. That is big. Springs has done a very good job this season and considering the Eagles throw it all over the field it would have been nice to have him.

The Eagles should get Westbrook back this week which will obviously give the offense a boost.

Tampa Bay @ Denver

Which Denver defense will show up?

The one that hung in there against the Saints or the one that allowed Larry Johnson to do whatever he wanted.

I think Denver will be looking to prove themselves this week.

Tampa is coming off of a big emotional win last week over Green Bay and aren't going to be completely committed to this game.

On top of that, while the Tampa 2 defense does well in limiting a lot of yardage in the passing game, they give up almost 2 touchdowns a game.

That should open the door for Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall to have very big days.

Buffalo @ Arizona

This is the Bills first true test and I think everyone is in for a surprise.

The only break they caught really was that Boldin probably won't play.

But Fitzgerald is still there and Warner will get everyone involved. And the Bills can not win a shootout.

The Bills have not played an entire 60 minutes this season and I don't think that starts this weekend.

Pittsburgh @ Jacksonville

The Sunday night game this week should be a very physical one.

I already made my pick but I am really not sure of it. I think the Jags are more desperate for the win and seemed to play very well last week. But that was against Houston. Is Pittsburgh better than Houston? I think so.

The problem for the Steelers is that they have serious issues at running back. Their top 2 backs are out for a little while and going up against a physical Jags defense could present problems.

But can the Jags stop Big Ben and the passing game?

I think they can this week. Ben is hurting and his receivers and him haven't been in sync yet this year.

The picks:

Kansas City @ Carolina
Chicago @ Detroit
Atlanta @ Green Bay
San Diego @ Miami
Seattle @ NY Giants
Washington @ Philadelphia
Tennessee @ Baltimore
Indianapolis @ Houston
Tampa Bay @ Denver
Buffalo @ Arizona
New England @ San Fransisco
Cincinnati @ Dallas
Pittsburgh @ Jacksonville
Minnesota @ New Orleans

There you go. Watch the games and enjoy!

Verb's Thoughts:

7-6 last week? Really? That isn't very good! 32-12 is pretty good but that's all due to my week where I went 14-2. I need to keep that up but I know that that can't happen every week. There are definitely some interesting games on the slate for this week as GM touched on some of them. That is some excellent analysis the GM gave you above so I just going to strap it up and give you my thoughts game by game who is going to win.

The Picks:

Kansas City @ Carolina
Chicago @ Detroit
Atlanta @ Green Bay
San Diego @ Miami
Seattle @ NY Giants
Washington @ Philadelphia
Tennessee @ Baltimore
Indianapolis @ Houston
Tampa Bay @ Denver
Buffalo @ Arizona
New England @ San Francisco
Cincinnati @ Dallas
Pittsburgh @ Jacksonville
Minnesota @ New Orleans

That's what I have for ya. A few upsets and lots of home teams. Enjoy your Sunday and we'll see Monday night how it turned out. Remember, these are all straight up if you want some predictions against the spread, watch Hammerin' Hank on ESPN.
