New Mexico Bowl Preview

New Mexico Bowl
Colorado State vs Fresno State
Saturday, Dec. 20, 2:30
on ESPN
New Mexico Univ. Stadium - Albuquerque, NM

Why you should watch:
  • It's the second bowl game of the season and you are surely STILL going through withdrawal from not having any major college football in two weeks even after watching the Eagle Bank Bowl.
  • I really don't have another reason. This game might be incredibly painful to watch.
Why you shouldn't watch:
  • Neither of these teams can do much on the offensive side of the ball other than run it.
  • And as luck would have neither can stop anyone either AT ANYTHING.
  • Potentially the ugliest game of the bowl season.

Scheduling Notes:
Colorado State:
  • 6-6 (4-4)
  • 7th bowl game in the last 10 years (2-4)
  • Lost 4 of their last 7 games (all 4 losses to bowl teams)
  • They went 2-4 in road/neutral site games this season
Fresno State:
  • 7-5 (4-4)
  • 9th bowl games in the last 10 years (4-4) ...... won 4 of last 5
  • They lost 3 of their last 5 games (all 3 losses to bowl teams)
  • Went 5-2 on the road or at neutral sites this season

Key Stats, Figures, and Players:
Colorado State:
  • Just plain bad on defense. 83rd or lower in scoring, passing, rushing, and pass efficiency defense.
  • Not much better on offense. They are in the top third of the nation in passing but that is it.
  • QB Billy Farris has had a solid season with 2,677 yards and 17 touchdowns.
  • If WR Dion Morton is catching a pass than it is probably for a touchdown. He has 48 catches this season and 10 of those are for touchdowns.
  • Against the Dogs porous run defense RB Gartrell Johnson might fun for 200 yards.
Fresno State:
  • They are actually worse at scoring and rushing defense than the Rams.
  • Turnover margin....-11. Not Good. They have only intercepted 4 balls ALL SEASON.
  • Offensively they aren't terrible. Top third in the nation in scoring and rushing offense.
  • RBs Anthony Harding and Lonyae Miller have combined for 1,401 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.

Who Wins:

Fresno State...I really don't have a great reason but I think the Bulldogs will win. They are a little better on offense and both teams should run the ball alot. Really the deciding factor is that this team plays better away from home.
